12 WAYS TO WEAR BROOCHES FASHIONABLY

12 WAYS TO WEAR BROOCHES FASHIONABLY

Do you still think that a brooch is an accessory that only grandmothers wear? Then you are very wrong! The secret lies in HOW you wear them. If you follow fashion, you've probably noticed that brooches are more on trend than ever in recent years. Would you like to know how to wear brooches in a fashionable way? After all, a brooch is a timeless accessory. It will instantly add glamor to anything, no matter where you pin it.

Brooches are probably even more popular in France than they are in Italy. There are so many craftswomen in France creating stunningly beautiful embroidered and woven brooches, and there are so many to choose from!

But here in France this fall it's also impossible not to notice that brooches are really on trend. You can see them everywhere, but especially on the lapels of coats and jackets. Where you can't find them, despite the general French passion for them, is on scarves and stoles - according to French women it is too static and old-fashioned. But at the fall shows 2022-2023 it is brooches that decorate fashionable stoles.

What is good brooch is that it is the best alternative to embroidery, and the alternative is mobile: you can always change its "dislocation" and play another thing in a new way.

Brooch (from the French "broche", which means "long needle") in a familiar form appeared, or rather to say, evolved in the 17th century. Before that, people used agraffes (a kind of decorative buckle, fastening clothes), then came the fibula, which was used to fasten cloaks and capes.

Fashion accessory brooch for the first time in history made a favorite of King Louis XIII - Madame de Sevigne. She created a kind of "secret language" using brooches. Later, one of the jewelry models was named in her honor - a gold or silver piece in the form of a bow with a pendant.

Coco Chanel was the first to bring the brooch to the fashion runway, who, by the way, believed that the brooch itself is already self-sufficient and therefore does not need the company of any other jewelry.

Times and fashion have changed, but if you are a fan of restrained classics, try to decorate your outfit with our brooch and you will always look appropriate and always "très chic".

What to wear a brooch with

Let's start with the fact that now a brooch can be worn with anything - you can safely mix styles of clothing and accessories. But if you are just beginning your romance with accessories, I advise you to start experimenting with simple basic things, such as a calfskin, white shirt, denim jacket, men's jacket, classic coat and voluminous pullover. With them you can fearlessly wear both modern brooches and vintage brooches of any style and any size.

One or two things from this list are sure to have each of us. But remember that these things should be as simple as possible in cut and with a minimum of decoration, because they should become a suitable background for the brooch.
The main advantage of a brooch is that it can be worn with anything, and at the same time with its help you can play with this or that thing in a new way.

With jackets and jackets

One, two brooches or even a whole cascade of these jewelry pinned on the lapel or breast pocket: this simple technique is now the most fashionable.
With blouses and shirts

Blouses and shirts made of light fabrics can not always withstand the weight of the brooch, so most often the jewelry is pinned on the "strengthened" places - on the collar or on the clasp of the neck.
With coats

The most current way to wear a brooch is on a coat, and you can not limit yourself to the lapel: you can pin a brooch anywhere. It is also allowed to use several jewelry and a bold play on contrasts - on a coat of men's cut, pin a romantic vintage brooch with feathers.

With dresses

Almost thirty years ago, Gianni Versace created one of the most iconic dresses in fashion history: a black dress with deep slits fastened with large gold brooch pins. It was this dress that Liz Hurley wore to the London premiere of the movie Four Weddings and a Funeral in 1994.
Traditionally, brooches on dresses, as well as on jackets, are worn on the left side, but now it is fashionable to break the classic rules, so you can pin a brooch on the right side. On dresses with an asymmetrical neckline and one-shoulder dresses, it is better to decorate the more closed part with a brooch.
On dresses with straps, the best place for a brooch will be the shoulder strap. And on a dress with a regular round neckline, boat neckline or deep neckline will look original asymmetrical arrangement of two or three brooches. If there are more brooches - you can imitate them with a necklace.
On accessories

On a hat, on a fashionable turban, even on a simple knitted hat - a brooch will look amazing everywhere. Even knitted gloves can be decorated with small brooches. And your modest clutch, decorated with one or two brooches, will look like new and much more expensive. You can even turn an ordinary long string of pearls into a real jewel by simply securing it with a beautiful vintage brooch!
On the chest

The first thing that comes to mind is to attach the brooch on the chest, where it first appeared. But first, don't make the common mistake of placing a single brooch too close to the "top of the chest": a more appropriate place for it would be closer to the shoulder. Secondly, now you have many more options to stylishly wear a brooch on your chest! In 2023, the most usual place for a brooch is on the lapel of a jacket, blazer or coat.
You can also fix a brooch on the breast pocket. It is better if on the chest is not a single brooch, but a set of two or three items in the same style or theme, for example, in the form of insects or flowers, and it is not terrible if they will be quite large.
On the collar

I'm sure you've seen more than once how spectacularly you can transform a simple shirt by simply fastening almost any brooch on the collar clasp. No less elegant brooch will look and on a silk blouse with a bow. But try to fix the brooch on the collar itself, but somewhere near (experiment, play with the size and distribution).
